The Job Posting Address or Location

A company most of the time posted in their website or to any newspaper with wide circulation the available job vacancies and specific qualifications for the job.  This is to reach as many applicants as possible for them to select and shortlist possible qualified applicants to the vacant job.  This posting of job if done on newspaper had cost them for the space and thus, it is being monitored too.  For all you know, the more applicants will apply the better for them to select the best and highly qualified applicant for the job.

This is why it is important to include in your application letter where you found the job posting.  This will give them idea that you are a keen observer to details which is actually one of the requirements needed to any of the job.  This will be a plus point to such applicant as such question will be asked later how you found the job posting.

The manager or the human resource section of such company knew exactly what they should be looking and they are also aware that only those professionally qualified will apply on their job posting, particularly if the job vacancy posting is done on newspapers.

One or two sentences indicating how you found the job posting is more than enough.  You don’t need to write a paragraph for this.  “I found your job posting in newspaper (the name of the newspaper) and I was interested because I am qualified for the position,” sentence is enough. Do not state “I feel I am qualified” and the likes are not advisable as this indicates a negative view.  Instead, state you are qualified based on your academic qualification and experiences if any.

Well, if you got the job vacancy information from a friend, relative or you just heard it on a conversation by people you do not have connections with, so be it, mention it on your application letter.  This will make the reader of your application letter or the HR manager that you are interested to the job.

Do not misinterpret or ignore this part.  I am positive this will give you point if not included in the list of shortlisted applicants.

Selling yourself via the application letter

We are not just looking for specific job to submit our CV and with the application letter as cover letter or when we searched for one, we don't just send our application letter.  We make sure that before we apply, we have the knowledge and capacity to handle the vacant position posted.

You are not the only one with this line of thinking as there are also people with the same knowledge and capacity as yours and are also targeting the same job you want to have.  This makes the rivalry or competition more tough as a number of applicants may rise as job posted is being scattered through publication or word of mouth.  Obviously, the company will only stop accepting applicants on specified date.  This means, applicants will continue to come in.

But the real situation in selecting the possible additional manpower of such business or company is only one - to make sure that the person selected will be of great help to the company.  And you know what?  The HR manager at first, shortlisted applicants whom he/she thinks is qualified for the position base on the application letter and CV received.

The short listing of possible applicants starts from reading the application letter.  At a glance of the HR Manager or upon reading the application letter first paragraph, he she will determine if such can advance to the next process - the test or interview section.  This will only happen if you have that striking idea represented through words in your application letter.

Grammar free is just one of the basic requirements.   Through reading your application letter over and over again will make you see other parts of the grammar you over see.  The delivery of your thought will be the second.  And the last, how you had narrated an experience that you  was once created a solution to such problem in the company included in your Work Experience indicated in your CV (I’ll be writing about this later).

This is how important the application letter.  It can make you shortlisted and possibly advance for another step from your competitors in the job you are applying. I will write sample application letter to elaborate further the idea I am telling here.  For now, I would like to suggest you start writing your application letter and compare to the one I'll be making later.

Your Name Font, size and others

You might not be aware but the size and other details of your names in your resumé counts in the overall appearance of you resumé.  The size in particular should not be that big nor small. Of course, this depends also on how long your name may be.  And don't forget to stick you 2 X 2 or past port size picture in the top right side of the paper.

I would like to suggest that your name be placed in the center of the paper.  But of course, you can also place it on the left side too, as it appear good to you and to the prospective reader.  Below your name is the address, contact number and email address if you have one.

This part of your resumé should appear in a professional manner.  The email address you will be slapping under you name should appear professional too.  You should be careful in using email addresses as this will affect and trigger the reader to just set aside you application. An email address appearing like yourfullname@mail is a professional email but not with yournameonly1234@mail and likes is not at all appear professional.  I would like to emphasize that a number or special character should not be included in your email.  You should not create an email like this to be used in you application for a job whether it online or a day job.

You see, it is not that simple to just type a resumé in submit it to your prospect job as this is also considered a business communication where you showcase your abilities and capacities which the business can get for them to make the business grow and productive.  Yes, even the utility workers contribute something in the overall objective of such business.  Be careful when creating your resumé .

For the font for your name, use only the regular fonts being used.  Italics name is not suggested.  There are places in the resumé where you can use italize words but not your name.  This is wrong and unprofessional.  I'll be writing more about resumé and its structure in the future.  Feel free to share your ideas too,  just fill up the comment box.

Application Letter as cover letter

An application letter is actually one of the most important part for every person looking for a job.  You should be aware that an application letter does not have to have even a single error in spelling, grammar including spacing.

Before creating an application letter, you should consider the person who will be reading it.  The manager, for example, should be impressed not on how you created the letter but on how you convey and show to them you capabilities and knowledge on the work you are applying.

If you have an experience related to the job you are applying, this will be plus as it needs to be include in writing your application letter.  This should be written in another paragraph giving emphasis on a situation you contributed for the successful conduct or your contribution created something to fast tract such processes or through your effort the company had saved time and money.

You need to be ready for this one, because when you reach the interview part, you will be ask about this again.  This situation will be a good springboard for you to be shortlisted and hopefully called for an interview.

An application letter is the same with sales letter.  In the sales letter you may want to convince a prospect client by giving all the data, the benefits or the product or service you are selling, and the likes, to make a sell. The application letter is being written to sell also your knowledge and abilities.  This is why you need to make sure your application letter is enough to convince the boss that you are the person they are looking for as an additional manpower to their company.

Again, you need to be very very careful in writing your resumé, there's no room for errors.  You can do this by reading it many time before deciding to send it.
